Microsoft Excel for Android has been updated with a nifty new feature that was originally teased at a conference last year. If you’re in a rush and need to turn a photo or image into a spreadsheet that you can actually edit, this is now your go-to app.
The update uses image recognition and AI to snap a photo of something like a nutrition label, then turn it into a spreadsheet full of data and separated columns for you to edit and manipulate. Early testing seems like it works well, excluding a few hiccups with Excel struggling to see exactly where it should be separating rows of data in some instances.
But in a pinch, this is still much, much faster than trying to input information manually, especially on a smartphone. Even with a few small errors you can iron those things out relatively quickly and get on with whatever it is you need.
This feature is rolling out to beta users of Microsoft 365 first, so you can expect it to make its way to the rest of us once the bugs are ironed out down the line.
